Good to know

Cubic weight

Carriers charge for the space a parcel takes as well as its weight: Australia Post counts every cubic metre as 250 kg and, for a parcel in your own packaging, charges whichever is greater. A large, light canvas is charged on its size. Its prepaid satchels and flat-rate boxes are priced by size instead.

Australia Post's limits

Parcels within Australia can be up to 22 kg, 105 cm on the longest side and 0.25 cubic metres. Anything larger needs a courier or a specialist art carrier.

Pack it to survive a drop

Corner protectors, a layer of bubble wrap, and a stiff board over the glass or canvas face. Tape an X across glass so it holds together if it breaks, and insure anything you could not replace.
