Good to know

What makes it count

Your own signature in ink, the date, and a number you keep a record of. A certificate is only as good as the record behind it — note which number went with which work and buyer.

For prints, say the edition

Write the print's number and the size of the edition — 3 of 25 — and never print more than the edition says. Artist's proofs are usually kept to about a tenth of the edition.

Keep a copy

Save each certificate as a PDF before you print it. If the work is resold, the next owner can ask you to confirm it — and resale royalty in Australia (5% on resales of $1,000 or more) follows the same record.
