Ask what the fibre is and how it was dyed, because natural dyes and synthetic dyes age completely differently. Find out how the piece is meant to hang. A textile work usually needs a rod, a batten or a sleeve, and retrofitting one is harder than it sounds.
Light fades textiles faster than almost anything else, and natural dyes fastest of all. Hang the work out of direct sun, and take it down and rest it flat every few years if it is heavy.
