Ask whether the work is fixed, particularly for charcoal and pastel, because an unfixed drawing will move if it is handled. Check the paper. Good paper is one of the clearest signals that an artist intended a drawing as a finished work rather than a study.
Glaze it, mount it off the glass, and keep it away from sun and bathrooms. Pastel in particular should not be hung anywhere it will be knocked.
