Drawing is the most direct thing an artist makes and usually the cheapest way to own something significant by someone whose paintings are out of reach. Charcoal, graphite, ink and pastel all behave differently on the wall.

Ask whether the work is fixed, particularly for charcoal and pastel, because an unfixed drawing will move if it is handled. Check the paper. Good paper is one of the clearest signals that an artist intended a drawing as a finished work rather than a study.
